We're SO glad that Grandma was here

My mom is amazing. It's very hard for my dad and brothers to let her go, but they sacrificed for a week and a half. Boy, do we appreciate it. We exhausted her with cooking, cleaning, rocking screaming baby, and lots of chasing after and entertaining two energetic kids. Luke and Audrey had a total blast with her, but hopefully she can rest when she gets back home. Go easy on her, boys. She's been busy!

welcome home cards from Luke and Audrey = lots of love

"I'm not so sure about all of this."

Big Brother, Big Sister

Their faces say it all. Luke and Audrey adore our little Max and are handling things quite well. We just have to make sure Audrey doesn't love him too much.

Meet Max

Max Bryce Hall
was born on Thursday, July 15 at 4:16AM.

He weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. and was 21 in. long.

He has dark hair just like Luke did, but I see glimpses of Audrey in him as well. Of course, he looks a lot like Clayton.

What can I say? He is practically perfect in every way.

I couldn't have asked for a better birthing experience, and all went extremely well. Clayton and the nurses said I made it look easy. I wouldn't say it was easy.

I had wanted to try Hypnobirthing and forego the epidural this time around. I ended up with an epidural, but I don't have any regrets. I think I was able to hold it together very well - the best I've done. By the time I had thrown up for the 10th time, throwing me into back-to-back contractions with no break, I just wanted a little relief. After the epidural, my body was able to relax, and he was born an hour later. I really don't think it could have gone smoother. It was actually really interesting having my own personal anesthesiologist (Clayton) there to make sure all went well.

Something about when I held little Max for the first time created an instant bond. All doubts and fears about adding another bit of chaos to our brood were gone, and I felt that fierce motherly love.

A Week Ago Today...

- my mom had been at my house for two days, and I was starting to panic. No baby.

- I'd been asked about a million times if I felt anything happening. Nada.

- I thought it was my official due date, until I went to my doctor's appointment. I had it wrong. It was 3 days later. How dumb could I be?

- I kept thinking, "The other two came a week early; why not this one?"

- my doctor stripped my membranes.

- I started having contractions, and it all came back. I knew that I would know when it was time. It was time!

- Clayton started walking around the house with the goofy grin he gets when I'm in labor. Before it made me mad. This time, I realized that he was not making fun of me. He was goofy with excitement to meet our little man.

- my mom timed my contractions while we watched a lame movie. At about 12:30AM we woke Clayton up to take me to the hospital.

- we had two kids sleeping at home. That was all about to change.

Kensington MetroPark

We were really lucky this year, and Clayton had Monday the 5th of July off as well as the rest of the weekend. Some friends invited us to go with them to a MetroPark and have a barbecue. Detroit has several MetroParks, which are kind of like state parks and really close to the city. After the barbecue, the guys went kayaking while Anna and I watched 7 kids ages 4 and under at the beach. Crazy, but also very fun on a hot day.
