Aimee the Anesthesiologist?

Well, not really, but it was fun pretending for a day. I had the amazing privilege of accompanying Clayton to an Anesthesiology Residents' conference in Cincinnati... with no kids! That's right, my mother-in-law very graciously flew a very long way to watch the kiddies while Clay and I went on a little weekend away. I can't believe she was willing to do it, and we are so grateful. We are also grateful to my mom who really made it all possible by trying to come and then arranging tickets for Becky when she couldn't.

I tried to be a good wife and shop, etc. while Clay did his thing, but I'm out of practice (and out of money) and got bored pretty quickly. So, Clay let me sneak into the conference with him, and I actually got to watch him present his case report. I think that was the highlight of the trip for me. I never really get to see him in his work setting, and he did a really great job.. We stayed to watch the rest of the session, and I found it fascinating. At least, it was fascinating when I could understand what they were saying. I think a few of the other presenters just liked to throw in huge medical words for fun. Maybe I've been around preschoolers too long. Anyway, we had a good time.

It was really nice to just spend some time with my hubby with no kid distractions. I had almost forgotten how to act around just him, and it was really good for us. It was also good for me to take a step back and remember all the reasons why we love our kids and would never regret having them. I missed them like crazy! We were also really looking forward to the fancy resident dinner at the Cincinnati Aquarium on Saturday night (our first real date in a while), but it wasn't quite what we had anticipated. I'd rather not go into all of the embarrassing details, but let's just say that it wasn't fancy or a dinner. Can you picture sliders and beer? Anyway, we left quickly and went to our first movie really dressed up (Avatar 3-D). I think I may laugh about it someday, but not quite yet.

On a somewhat related note, I had the opportunity to do my first real Heimlich maneuver to save a life. Becky choked on a grape (luckily we were still around!), and I'm glad I remembered what to do.

Maybe Medical School is in my future.

Okay, probably not.

Aimee, you're cute.

I love your posts too. I can hear your voice telling me what you have typed.

I'm glad you had a good trip and that you were able to enjoy some time together.

So glad you got a weekend away and that Becky was able to come and watch the kids while you went to Cinci! And I would agree that when you know the people giving the presentations it is kind of fun to watch...even when you don't understand everything they say. Oh, and good job on saving Becky's life...I've always liked her so I'm glad you were there!

That sounds like so much fun! Terry always tells me about the things that go on at work, and once in a while I wish I could be a fly on the wall and see him in the work-sphere.
And awesome job with the Heimlich!
